'Blizzard of Oz,' held in place of Taylor Winterfest, kicks off Holiday Carnival week

Blizzard of Oz
City of Taylor

(WWJ) If you are searching for family friendly activities amid the pandemic, the city of Taylor may have just what you are looking for.

The Blizzard of Oz is underway right now, on week six of the eight-week event with a different theme each week.

The Holiday Carnival kicks off on Monday, December 21. It will be held on the 22nd, 26th and 27th in Heritage Park at the corner of Northline Road and Pardee, between Telegraph and Allen roads.

The activities will take place at the Coan Lake Historical area, the petting farm and conservatory. The carnival will feature stilt walkers, fire tricks, balancing acts and illusions.

Some other highlights…more than 100 lighted Christmas trees, larger-than-life characters and more than 200,000 holiday lights transforming Heritage Park into a "true winter wonderland."

The final two themes are as follows:

Frozen—December 28, 29, and January 2, 3

Harry Potter—January 7-10

Previous weeks themes included The Nutcracker, Grinchmas, Polar Plunge and Santa's Carnival.

The Taylor Winterfest Craft Show is also underway in the Activities Building behind the Taylor Community Library.

Capacity is limited and registration is required because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The organizers say proper social distancing will be observed. Masks are required to keep all attendees as safe as possible.

You can register here.

Tickets are:

Non-resident: $25 for adults and teenagers

$15 for children, 4-13 years old.

Taylor residents:

Special discount: $20 for adults and teens

$10 for children 4-13.

Anyone 3 and under is free.

Special discounts are available for active military, veterans, first responders and hospital staffers.

Take-it-yourself photos with Santa will benefit the Taylor Goodfellows. Other local charities will also benefit from this event.

Alcoholic drinks and general refreshments will be available for purchase. Parking is free and available in Lots C and D (located behind the Activities Building and West Mound Church).

The Blizzard of Oz replaces the annual Taylor Winterfest this year, which could not be held safely due to the pandemic.
