WAYLAND (WWJ) - Police say they're working to identify human remains found in West Michigan on Tuesday near the home of a man who went missing last year.
The Wayland Police Department said in a press release that the remains were found next to US-131 and Windsor Woods Village, a mobile home park. Wayland, Mich. is located almost halfway between Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.
According to Chief Scott Matice, someone called to report "a suspicious situation" in the mobile home community.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered human remains that presented as if they had been there for at least several months.
Matice said the location of the remains was very close to the home of Ronald Jenson who disappeared back on Aug. 4, 2022, but they're unsure if there is a connection at this time.
"The Wayland City Police Department is working with the Allegan County Medical Examiner and Western Michigan University Medical to help positively identify the body," police added.
Once a positive match has been made, authorities will update the public.
The Wayland City Police Department was assisted by the Allegan County Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police and Gun Lake Tribal Police at the scene.
