"Oh my God, Ew! Ew! This is so f'ing ghetto."

Those are the words of a woman who recorded a melee at a gate at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on Sunday when it appears multiple passengers jumped on, punched and kicked airport employees.

One of the women in the fracas screams "Don't touch my mother f*** bag." See a video of the scene below, but note that it contains violence, expletives and racial epithets.

Spirit Airlines said the brawl broke out when four people tried to board a flight from Detroit to Atlanta without authorization. By the time it was over, two employees of Spirit Airlines and one passenger were hospitalized after they were attacked. It apparently began when a gate agent asked the passengers to verify their carry-ons were the proper size.

Two were arrested at the scene while a third was ticketed.

"This was not a fight. Describing it as a fight is untrue to our agents," Spirit Airlines said in a statement. "In actuality, three passengers attacked our agents without provocation.

Everyone involved was banned from Spirit Airlines, the airline said.

"This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place in airports or any other place of business," read the statement.

Airports have been much emptier than usual since the pandemic began and in response some carriers have offered rates as low as $21 per trip. This behavior, some said, was the result of ultra-cheap flights.

"When it's affordable, you can expect affordable problems," one twitter user wrote. Another added, "These prices need to go tf back up."
