WWJ -- Two Michigan staples are teaming up to bring Michiganders two favorite treats.
Buddy's Pizza and Hudsonville Ice Cream are launching "Pizza & Pints," offering a special deal to carry out an 8-square, one-topping Buddy's pizza and a pint of Hudsonville ice cream for $19.99. The deal, starting April 5, will be available at all 16 full-service Buddy's Pizza locations.
Customers will be able to choose between two of Hudsonville's classic pint flavors celebrating Michigan: Traverse City Cherry Fudge with sweet chunks of cherry and a thick fudge ripple blended into creamy amaretto ice cream, or Mackinac Island Fudge with a mix of butter fudge and fudge chunks blended into vanilla ice cream.
Additional pints of Hudsonville ice cream will be available for $5.99 at Buddy's locations.
"Both Buddy's Pizza and Hudsonville Ice Cream are beloved Michigan brands, and there's no better combination than pizza and ice cream," chief operating officer at Buddy's Pizza Katy Dean said in a press release. "We're thrilled to partner with Hudsonville to offer a classic Michigan pairing perfect for the warmer months ahead."
Buddy's, creator of the original Detroit-Style Pizza, is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2021. Buddy's opened in 1946 at the corner of Six Mile and Conant in Detroit, previously a speakeasy called Buddy's Rendezvous. Using a bit of ingenuity and square blue steel pans intended to hold nuts and bolts at local automotive plants, Gus Guerra, along with friend and employee Concietta "Connie" Piccinato, created the first Detroit-Style Pizza – a square-shaped pie that was the first of its kind in a world of round pizza.
Hudsonville has been making ice cream for 95 years, getting its start in Hudsonville, Michigan in 1926. Now, the company offers over 50 flavors, including Dairy Free and Extra Indulgent lineups, and its ice cream is sold throughout the Midwest in more than a dozen states.
"We know Michiganders love anything made here in our state and that's why Hudsonville is so proud to work with Buddy's Pizza to make this dream combination of pizza and ice cream pints a reality," Josh Gillett of Hudsonville Ice Cream said in a statement. "Hudsonville and Buddy's Pizza are both notable brands here in our state and this special offer makes it easier for people to gather around their family tables and celebrate the best tastes we have to offer."
