(WWJ) Police are searching for the shooter after bullets flew through the windows of a Southfield daycare center.
Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said what became a very scary situation began with a child custody dispute in front of the Sapphire Apartments on North Park Drive near the Lodge Fwy., Monday morning.
The children were dropped off, but the mother and father — identified as the as the gunman — got into an argument that turned violent.
The father damaged the mother's car and took off, with the mom and her new boyfriend in pursuit in his vehicle.
That's when Barren said he father pulled a gun and fired five shots toward the other car; two of which pierced the windows of the Childtime Daycare Center, near J.L. Hudson and Providence Dr.
Fortunately, while the kids inside the daycare were shaken up, no one was injured.
"When you think about the recklessness of this individual, letting emotion make poor choices when it comes to the safety of our community," Barren told WWJ's Sandra McNeill. "This will not be tolerated."
"We know who he is," the chief added. "We are investigating this very thoroughly. We have all our resources allocated to bringing him into custody, and fortunately the mother is cooperating."
The suspect's name has not been released as the investigation continues.
