INKSTER (WWJ) -- The Michigan State Police are investigating a trooper involved shooting that took place in Inkster Friday afternoon.

The Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team and Second District Special Investigation Section members were executing a search warrant at an Inkster home in the area of Middlebelt Road and Parkwood Street as part of a homicide investigation around 2:45 p.m.

According to the MSP, a 19-year-old Inkster man left the home. He got into an SUV. There was also a woman in the car.

The driver reportedly fled when troopers attempted to do a traffic stop. The SUV was traveling eastbound on Parkwood. Authorities said the man ran a red light at Parkwood and Oakwood Street and hit another car.

The man got out of the SUV and ran a short distance when shots were fired. According to the MSP, he was hit in the lower body. He was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Two guns were reportedly found near the suspect.

The man driving the other car was pronounced dead on the scene from injuries he sustained in the crash.

There were no other reported injuries.

The MSP Third District Investigative Response Team is leading the investigation. The troopers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave per departmental policy.

The investigation will be submitted to Attorney General Dana Nessel for review.
