(WWJ) Canada has extended its restrictions on non-essential travelers from the U.S.
The closure was originally slated to expire Wednesday, April 21st.
The border will remain closed until at least May 21st as Michigan experiences a surge of coronavirus, although Governor Whitmer and other health experts say evidence suggests the surge may be slowing down.

A statement on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website reads: "We are maintaining cross-border activities with Canada and Mexico that support health security, trade, commerce, supply security, and other essential activities while taking critical steps to protect our citizens and to curb spread of the virus."
