(WWJ) A suspect is in custody, caught in the act while robbing a Canton bank on Tuesday.

At around 4:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a bank robbery in progress at the Chase Bank on Ford Rd. at Canton Center Rd.

As the only suspect was exiting the bank, the first patrol car arrived on scene.

The suspect then retreated back into the bank, police said, and let all of the occupants exit the building.

A witness calling the WWJ Newsroom said police officers had the road blocked off and the bank building surrounded, with guns drawn.

After a short time, the suspect surrendered into police custody.

There were no reported injuries to anyone — including bank employees and customers, police said.

The incident remains under investigation, and it will be turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review when completed.

Police said no further information would be released at this time.
