DETROIT (WWJ) - Families and friends of two men who were gunned down in Detroit two months ago are turning to the community for help after police investigations yielded no suspects or leads.
Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward up to $2,500 for information about the shooting death of Marquese Smith and Teron Flowers, both 27-years-old, on Dec. 15, 2021 on the city's eastside.
Investigators said the two men were at a liquor store on St. Aubin and Larned that Wednesday evening two months ago when a fight broke out. Both Smith and Flowers were involved in the altercation, which continued out into the surrounding neighborhood.
Police then said the two men were fatally shot. Smith was fired on while while running away from the fight and died in between two buildings of the Martin Luther King Jr. apartment complex. Flowers was shot in the middle of St. Aubin Street and transported to an area hospital where he later died of his injuries.
The Detroit Police Department doesn't have any leads in the case and there are currently no suspects.
Smith's mother said on social media that she had been attempting to get the word out and draw attention to this case, but has struggled to find answers.
"It's not the guns that's killing people -- it's people who's killing people," she said on YouTube. "That there's people not doing nothing about it, so I'm just asking if you know something, then say something."
"Who took these men's' lives? Who took my son's life?" she pleaded.
Online memorials for Smith and Flowers have been posted where additional photos and information is available.
Anyone with any knowledge regarding the double murders is asked to contact the call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up (800-773-2587). All Crime Stoppers tipsters will remain 100% anonymous.
