SANDUSKY, Ohio (WWJ) — Cedar Point’s highly anticipated new roller coaster is one step closer to opening.
Siren’s Curse, set to open in early summer of 2025, will be North America’s “tallest, fastest and longest tilt roller coaster.”
Construction on Siren’s Curse hit a major milestone Tuesday as crews lifted the ride’s “signature element” — the tilt track — to the highest point on the roller coaster.
Officials with Cedar Point say the 45-ton, 61-foot-long section of track is the ride’s signature terrifying element, “teetering the coaster’s train into a 90-degree vertical position before locking into place and releasing riders into the 2,966 feet of twisting track below.”
“Bringing the lore and legend of the mythical Lake Erie siren to life, Siren’s Curse lures its riders with on-board audio and dynamic LED lighting, immersing them into an adrenaline-pumping multi-sensory ride experience,” said a Cedar Point press release.
In announcing Siren’s Curse last September, Cedar Point released the following description of what will be the famed amusement park’s 19th roller coaster:
"Riders will hear the echo of the siren’s chilling melodies as they ascend an old 160-foot-tall Lake Erie shipping crane tower, the sounds growing more sinister as riders reach the top. Their fate will hang in the balance as they encounter the roller coaster’s signature moment: a dead stop on a “broken off” section of track. The creaking platform holding the train of riders will slowly tilt the entire train into a 90-degree vertical position, forcing riders to peer straight down with the hope their train will connect to the twisted track below.
"As the track locks into place, riders will flee from the beckoning call of the siren and plunge into the abyss, speeding through 2,966 feet of track at a top speed of 58 mph. The ride will feature 13 weightless airtime moments, two 360-degree, zero-gravity barrel rolls and a high-speed “triple-down” element with twisted and overbanked track.
On Tuesday Cedar Point released video and photos showing the progress on the roller coaster’s construction.
Siren's Curse is being built across from the Iron Dragon suspended coaster, near the Cedar Point Marina.
