CENTER LINE (WWJ) — Festivities will resume Sunday afternoon at the Center Line Independence Festival a day after it was shut down early due to reports of fighting.
Officials with the Center Line Festival Foundation posted on Facebook Saturday night that the carnival had been shut down early “due to unexpected events.”
The post said the move was “to ensure the safety of our community and families,” but no further details were disclosed.
Many festivalgoers in the comments, however, reported there were rowdy crowds and fighting amongst teenagers on the second day of the festival. It was not clear if anyone was arrested.
As a “gesture of goodwill,” anyone who bought wristbands for Saturday’s festival will be able to use them on Sunday.
The final day of the carnival runs from noon to 6 p.m., while the Cruisin’ 53 Car Show runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Officials did not say whether any extra security measures would be in place for the final day of the festival.
Facebook commenters also noted long lines for entry, tickets and attractions at the festival on Saturday.
The early closure of the Center Line Independence Festival comes three weeks after fighting between teens at Berkley Days also caused the festival to be closed early. At least three minors were arrested and one person was sent to the hospital.
