CHESTERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) -- A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash over the summer in Chesterfield Township.
Early in the morning of Tuesday, August 29, Chesterfield police were called to Cotton Road, near the I-94 overpass, after a passerby called to report seeing someone lying in a grassy area.
Responding officers found a 42-year-old Chesterfield Township man dead at the scene.
Following further investigation, police said they were looking for the driver of a 2017-21 black Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Detectives later identified the suspected hit-and-run driver as Shane Flaherty of Chesterfield Township, and police said he's been cooperating with the investigation since that time.
Flaherty was arraigned in 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore Thursday afternoon on one felony count of Failure To Stop At The Scene Of Accident – When At Fault – Resulting In Death.
Police said he posted a $10,000 personal bond and was released, as he awaits further court proceedings.
Flaherty faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
