
ALLEGAN (WWJ) -- Several people, including at least one child, were hurt Monday night when a firework shot into a crowd gathered for an Independence Day celebration in West Michigan.
WWJ's Beth Fisher reports the apparent accident happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. during the July 3 Jubilee, a community event in downtown Allegan.
Video shared by MLive captured the incident, which sent the panicked crowd scattering.

“It was absolutely terrifying,” Amy Cummings told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press. “I woke up and can still hear the cries of the children in fear.”
Fisher reported multiple people took to social media to complain about injuries, and chide event organizers for the mishap.
The city of Allegan released a statement Tuesday morning, station that their “thoughts are with all of those who were affected by this unintentional incident.”
Officials did confirm that one child was taken to a local hospital, while others people had minor injuries.
“During the firework display, a firework cake from the proximate show unintentionally landed in a crowd located to the east of one of the (launch points). This resulted in a handful of minor injuries, all but one of which was treated at the site of the incident. One individual was transported to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital for further evaluation,” the statement reads.
Firefighters were on hand to the event, and responded following the incident.
“The city of Allegan is thankful for the quick response by the Allegan Fire District, LIFE EMS, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department and the Allegan City Police Department,” the city's statement added. Reports state that the fireworks for was conducted Wolverine Fireworks Display,
