TROY (WWJ) -- A Macomb County man is expected to face a drunken driving charge after his arrest outside a church in Oakland County last Friday.

Just before 5 a.m. on April 4, Troy Police said a call came in for a welfare check on a driver who appeared to be sleeping while parked in the middle of the driveway at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, on N. Adams Rd.

Officers arrived to find a blue Range Rover SUV parked across the church's driveway, with the driver asleep behind the wheel.

When officers woke the driver, identified as a 36-year-old Clinton Township man — they said they smelled "an odor of alcohol coming from his person" according to the police report.

He was asked to perform several sobriety evaluations, performed poorly, and then blew a .199% on a breathalyzer test, police said.

Upon further investigation, the driver was found to have a revoked driver's license and multiple warrants for his arrest.

He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police lock-up, where he was read his Chemical Test rights and refused to take a breath test, according to police. A search warrant to complete the blood draw was prepared and granted, and the man's blood was drawn by medical personnel.

Expected OWI charges are pending while police await the test results. The man's name was not immediately released.
