(WWJ) A 45-year-old Clinton Township man wanted for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend has been found and arrested out-of-state.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office last week authorized a felony warrant for Assault with Intent to Murder for Kevin Lee VanAelst.
On Oct. 9, it was reported that VanAelst sliced his pregnant ex-girlfriend's throat with a box cutter just as she was about to enter the Clinton Township Police Department to file a domestic assault report against him.
VanAeist fled the scene, and the victim was rushed to a local hospital. She was treated for her injuries and has since been released.
Clinton Township Police say detectives worked with the US Marshal Task Force for several days to determine VanAelst's whereabouts. When information received was that VanAelst may flee the state, a country-wide bulletin was issued about VanAelst, who was said to be armed and dangerous.
On Saturday, VanAelst's vehicle was located near a homeless shelter in West Virginia. A short time later, he was arrested without incident officers of the Charleston Police Department.
VanAelst is currently being held at the South Central Regional Jail, Charleston, West Virginia awaiting extradition.
The Michigan Department of Corrections records show VanAelst is a convicted felony, having served prison time for home invasions in Kent and Van Buren counties.
