WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - A 25-year-old Clinton Township woman faces drunk driving and other charges in the fatal hit-and-run crash of a Fraser High School teacher.
State Police said the driver was charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Failure to Stop at Scene of a Crash Resulting in Impairment or Death and Police Officer Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing Causing Injury following the crash along I-94 Tuesday night.
Authorities said 23-year-old Connor McMahon had parked his vehicle on the right shoulder of eastbound I-94 near 8 Mile/Vernier in Harper Woods and was fixing a flat tire just before 10:30 p.m.
McMahon was killed at the scene after both he and his vehicle were hit by the suspect vehicle. The suspect driver then took off.
Harper Woods police tracked down the Clinton Township woman and arrested her a short while later after a brief foot chase. She was then turned over to state troopers.
Troopers said on Wednesday morning that they were readying a search warrant for a blood draw on the suspect.
Police alleged in addition to the fatal crash, the suspect hurt a Harper Woods police officer and bit a state trooper.
The suspect remains in custody and will be video arraigned Saturday, June 17.
The driver's name and bond information will be released after her arraignment.
McMahon was a social studies teacher at Fraser Public High school, from where he also graduated in 2017.
