DETROIT (WWJ) -- Be advised: It is going to be another dangerously cold weekend in Metro Detroit.
A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for Macomb, Oakland, Genesee, Huron, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, and Tuscola Counties, from 8 p.m. Friday until noon on Saturday. NWS warns of wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero possible in these areas.
In Wayne, Washtenaw, Lenawee and Monroe counties, the Cold Weather Advisory runs from 11 p.m. Friday until noon on Saturday, with winds chills as low as 15 below zero.
AccuWeather said temperatures will plummet overnight, with a high of only 16 degrees on Saturday, and 18 degree on Sunday in Metro Detroit.
Everyone is urged to wear appropriate warm clothing, a hat, and gloves if you must go outside, keep pets indoors as much as possible, and to make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.
Remember: Ensure that portable heaters are used correctly, and do not use generators inside your home.
This comes after snow significantly slowed traffic during the Friday morning commute. By mid-afternoon, however, drivers reported to WWJ that most of the roads were salted and in much better shape.
While the most snow is expected to wrap up before noon on Friday, for AccuWeather said a few snow squalls were possible later Friday, along with gusty winds. In total, forecasters said most areas would only see another half-an-inch or so of accumulation.
Some good news ahead: Next week is looking a little bit "warmer" (if you can call it that), with a high of around 26 degrees with some sunshine on Monday, and up into the mid-30s for the rest of the week.
