DETROIT (WWJ) -- Another polar blast is moving into Michigan, making for a frigid and blustery weekend in Metro Detroit.

The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory covering all of Southeast Michigan. It goes into effect at 1 a.m. Friday and lasts until 10 a.m. Saturday.

Very cold wind chills as low as 15 to 25° below zero are expected on Friday and Saturday, the weather service says.

WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Joe Lundberg's advice is to bungle up now, as it will be much colder outside beginning Thursday — feeling like the single digits.

"Temperatures are starting out in the mid-20s now, and that is the night for the day; they're going to go in reverse throughout the day," Lundberg said. "It'll be windy, they'll be flurries and maybe even a heavier snow shower toward evening. Temperatures will end up close to 20 by sunset, and the real-feel is never higher than the single digits most of the day."

The coldest conditions are expected between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday, although wind chills will remain well below zero through the day Friday and into Saturday morning, according to forecasters.

The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

The public is urged to observe the following:

- Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
- Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
- Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators inside.

As for snow: AccuWeather says there was a chance for a snow squall or two on Thursday, and a little more snow on Saturday and Sunday, although not much accumulation is expected.
