TROY (WWJ) -- A Ferndale woman is awaiting expected charges after police say she refused to cooperate and was belligerent with officers at the scene of crash last week in Troy.

While on patrol just after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, police said officers came across a crash that had just happened, at Maple Rd. (15 Mile Rd.) and Rochester Rd.

Police said they tried to speak with the at-fault driver, but she refused to roll down her window or open her door.

"After several minutes, the driver finally rolled down her window and officers immediately smelled an odor of intoxicants coming from her vehicle," according to the police report.

Police said the 32-year-old woman's eyes were bloodshot and glassy and her speech was slurred. When asked, the driver declined medical attention or an ambulance, and no injuries were reported.

Police said the woman eventually "became combative" with officers and was taken into custody on suspicion of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).

When officers searched the woman's car, they allegedly found an empty 25 oz. can of beer on the front passenger floorboard.

The driver was taken to the Troy Police Lock-up where she was read her chemical test rights. She refused to take a breath test, and police had to get warrant for a blood draw.

Police said the case was turned over to the Troy PD Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned.

The woman's name was not released.
