(WWJ) – Forecasters say it’s going to be cold on Halloween, and we may even see some snowflakes, though it wouldn’t be enough to accumulate. But as we approach the winter months, that won’t be too far behind.
And before you throw your arms up and complain — remember that, thanks to the colder climate of the Upper Midwest, Michigan is a world-class winter tourist destination, with the state’s economy relying on skiers, snowmobilers and more people who just love winter.
But what would a warmer-than-average winter – which the National Weather Service is predicting this year – mean for business? On a new Daily J podcast WWJ’s Zach Clark takes a look at how that could impact all of Michigan’s diverse winter offerings.
Many people may think of Michigan's tourist towns and destinations as "summer-only" spots. But Amanda Wilkin, the Executive Director with Visit Charlevoix in Northern Michigan, says that's false.
"People just believe that because it's a summer community and it's so popular in the summertime that there's nothing to do in the winter, which is false," she said.
From ski resorts to snowmobile trails -- and even a luge track -- Michigan has lots to offer in the winter, which the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce's Nikki Devitt says is "vital to our economy."
