DEARBORN (WWJ) — A crash involving multiple semi-trucks has closed a major Metro Detroit freeway Monday afternoon.
The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. on eastbound I-94 near Michigan Avenue (US-12) in Dearborn and left the freeway closed in the area for more than five hours.
While the cause of the crash was not immediately known, MDOT officials said it involved four semis, one of which caught fire.
MDOT shared photos on X, formerly Twitter, showing heavy damage to the trucks and debris all over the road, with firefighters on-scene.

The freeway remains closed at Greenfield/Schaefer as crews clean up and investigate, with traffic backed up to before Outer Drive, as of 7:45 p.m.
WWJ traffic reporter Scott Ryan says drivers can exit at Greenfield/Schaefer, go north to Michigan Avenue, east to Wyoming and get back on the freeway there.
WWJ's Tim Pamplin reported that surface streets in the area are "clogged" and anyone coming from Detroit Metro Airport into the city should take something other than I-94. He suggested taking I-275 to I-96 into Detroit.
There has been no word on whether anyone involved in the crash was injured.
