DETROIT (WWJ) – It's a longtime Detroit tradition, and for the first time since 2019, the streets of downtown Detroit will be packed with crowds for the annual Ford Fireworks show this summer.
More than 10,000 fireworks will be shot off from three barges on the Detroit River on June 27, the Parade Company announced on Thursday.
This year’s theme will be “Hey Detroit, The Sky Shines For You!”
Parade Company CEO Tony Michaels tells WWJ officials are still working on many plans for the event as crowds return to the show, including the musical acts for the rooftop party and who will be this year’s honorees.
“They’re thinking it through right now, but it’ll be something great. It really will. They’ve done teachers, they’ve done medical workers, they’ve done veterans,” Michaels said.
Michaels claims this year’s event, now in its 64th year, will be the biggest fireworks show in the nation.
The event had been closed to the public and aired only on TV each of the last two years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
