DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A Dearborn Heights man is facing criminal charges after it's alleged he deliberately killed a small dog by stomping on it.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Monday announced the case against 54-year-old Haseeb J. Habeeb in connection with the death of a 45-year-old Dearborn Heights woman’s 3-year-old pet Chihuahua.
According to investigators, at around 12 a.m. on May 24, Habeeb was at a home on Fleming Street, near W. Outer Dr. and the Southfield Freeway, when he stomped on the dog's neck, killing the animal.
An investigation by the Dearborn Heights Police Department led to Habeeb's arrest later that day.
He has since been charged with one count of Second-Degree Killing/Torturing of an Animal, which punishable by up to seven years prison, plus one count of Abandoning/Cruelty to One Animal.
Habeeb was arraigned in 20th District Court on May 28 and was given a $300 cash bond. His next court date is a Probable Cause Conference, scheduled for June 11.
