DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) – Students and parents in Dearborn Heights are demanding answers after a popular high school principal was placed on administrative leave.
Annapolis High School Principal Aaron Mollett was reportedly placed on administrative leave after what school officials are calling a "tragic student accident" involving a student's death earlier this month. No information about the student has been released.
Administrators say an investigation is underway, but they can't say anything because it's a "personnel matter." They have asked students and parents to be patient and say it's a highly sensitive and difficult process.
But students and their families want to know more about the suspension of Mollett, who they describe as being there for students "through thick and thin."
As protesters marched and chanted with signs in support of Mollett from the high school to the administration building, one parent told WWJ's Ryan Marshall the principal is "incredibly beloved" by the school community.
"There was a girl that was pulled out of a vehicle and attacked by multiple people and Mr. Mollett actually stood over her and protected her from getting beat. He had to go to the hospital and everything," said Jacqueline Hernandez.
"He's amazing. He does so much good for these kids. I don't understand how he could even be involved in something they think is negligent toward a child here," she said.
During the walkout, soon-to-be graduating senior Mariah said she really just wants answers.
"I really feel like you shouldn't have taken our principal two weeks before we're graduating, and we can't go to the dance, and he's meant a lot to us," she said.
She became visibly emotional when speaking about Mollett and how he's personally helped her in her journey to getting through school.
"I don't think I would be graduating if he didn't help," she said.
