Slabough is the most recent teen to go missing from the facility. She's the second to go missing this month. A 17-year-old girl walked away from Vista Maria on May 18th. She was found days later.

In March, 16-year-old Tasia Keaton ran away from the youth home. She was found a month later in an older man’s apartment near Inkster and Warren roads.

Police Chief Ahmed Haider said Keaton was staying with a 62-year-old Dearborn Heights man. He was arrested in April.

It’s not clear if any charges came from the incident. The man’s citizenship was also being reviewed.

According to the Vista Maria website, the facility opened 140 years ago as a home for girls and women, but now offers mental health services, foster care and adoption and care for survivors of human trafficking.

During a press conference in March about Keaton’s disappearance, Police Chief Haidar addressed the high number of law enforcement runs to Vista Maria, attributing issues to staffing issues or hiring unqualified people.

A blog post was added to the website on May 1st to address recent media attention.

According to the post, Chief Haidar’s comments “resulted in significant damage to Vista Maria’s reputation with key stakeholders.”

In the same post, the facility said they will begin a review of all training, processes, and procedures to identify and implement any necessary changes to their operations.
