DEARBORN (WWJ) – Michigan’s oldest Memorial Day parade will have a bit of a different look this year, thanks to road construction.

Due to planned MDOT construction, the route for Dearborn’s 97th annual Memorial Day Parade has changed. While the historic parade will still move along Michigan Avenue, it will be slightly shorter this year, beginning at Nowlin Street and moving a mile east to the Dearborn Historical Museum’s McFadden Ross House at Michigan and Brady.

The traditional remembrance ceremony will still take place at the McFadden Ross House after the parade, scheduled for noon.

The parade, put on by the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council, will honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice, paying tribute to all who lost their lives in service. The lead marching band in the parade will be the “Governor’s Own” 126th Army Band of the Michigan National Guard.

This year’s theme is Arab Americans Who Serve and the Grand Marshal is Dearborn native and United States Air Force Captain Maysaa M. Ouza.

The parade is set to begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. with a military funeral procession, followed by the Grand Marshal and other parade groups. The parade and ceremony are both open to the public and free to attend.
