DEARBORN (WWJ) - Residents in Dearborn may wake up to booming and banging on Thursday as the Dearborn Police Department's Bomb Squad conducts training operations.
The department said training will start in the rear parking lot of Henry Ford Centennial Library at 16031 Michigan Ave. in the City of Dearborn; residents can expect to hear noises throughout Thursday until operations wrap up at 3 p.m.
The Dearborn Police Department is one of only a small amount of municipal police departments in Michigan to have a fully operational bomb squad, also referred to as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD).
Thursday's training operations supports the unit's mission of "protecting the general public, police personnel and property during incidents involving explosives and incendiary materials or devices," the unit said on their website.
The Bomb Squad receives support from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) "with Special Agent Bomb Technicians (SABT), assigned to the squads in Michigan as a direct link to federal assets."
