DETROIT (WWJ) -- A high school basketball player in Detroit is on life support after going into cardiac arrest during a game.
It happened Tuesday evening, according to school officials, at Northwestern High School on W. Grand Blvd. on the city's west side.
In an email sent to parents and obtained by WWJ Newsradio 950, the district said senior Cartier Woods was administered CPR on the court before he was rushed to Henry Ford Hospital.
Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Superintendent Nikolai Vitti said in the email that the next 24 hours will be critical to the teen's survival.
Vitti added: "With the permission of Cartier Woods' legal guardian, his aunt, I send this email to you requesting your prayers, thoughts, and/or well wishes for his recovery.
"I will be sure to keep everyone updated about Cartier's health, and I pray to give you positive news!"
There are no additional details regarding the circumstances of the incident, with a spokesperson for DPSCD telling WWJ later Wednesday afternoon that they are not releasing any further information at this time.
