DETROIT (WWJ) -- Nothing was stolen in what appears to be an attempted robbery at a liquor store on the city's east side, but something was left -- a large hole in the wall.
Early Tuesday morning, an approximately four-foot by six-foot opening was smashed into the exterior brick wall of Supreme Liquor Shop, located on Hayes St, south of 7 Mile in Detroit.
The store's owner -- Ceaser Yaldo -- has served the local community for 37 years.
He received a call around 2:30 a.m. from a longtime customer who saw the hole and grew concerned.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reported live from the scene, where cinder blocks and debris can be seen through the gap.
While the incident was believed to be a smash and grab robbery, Yaldo said nothing was taken.
"This is probably the dumbest incident you can possibly have," the owner told Langton. "To break in, cause damage, and not even get anything... It's senseless."
Yaldo also said that while he has insurance, the deductible is high due to the store's location.
Unfortunately, the liquor store's security camera is mounted on the other side of the building and did not capture footage of the culprit(s).
"Basically, they had to either be stupid, drunk or something," Yaldo said of whoever broke into his building. "Something was going on with them, because they absolutely had no reason behind this."
Detroit Police have opened an investigation and ask that anyone with information -- or who may have witnessed the crime -- to contact them.
In the meantime, the Supreme Liquor Shop will be open to customers.
