DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit man is facing possible prison time after allegedly holding a woman hostage and abusing her dog.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says Ryan Alexander Jones, 30, has been charged in connection with the unlawful imprisonment of a 30-year-old Detroit woman with whom he has a child in common. He is also accused of abusing her dog during the incident over the weekend.
Police say they were called to a house in the 760 block of Woodmere on the city’s southwest side around 4 p.m. Saturday for a reported hostage situation.
When officers arrived at the scene, they were able to locate Jones inside the woman’s house, refusing to come out.
Officers eventually forced their way into the house and arrested Jones at the scene.
Prosecutors say Jones and the victim had gotten into an argument that escalated to him firing a gunshot into the floor and threatening to shoot her.
He also allegedly kicked the woman’s dog and threw it down a flight of stairs. It was not clear whether the dog was seriously injured during the incident.
Jones has been charged with one count of unlawful imprisonment, one count of discharge in/at a building, one county of felon in possession, one count of felonious assault, four counts of felony firearm, one count of domestic violence and one count of animal cruelty.
He was expected to be arraigned in 36th District Court Monday afternoon.
