DETROIT (WWJ) — A Detroit man has been arrested and charged for selling fentanyl that led to a Metro Detroit teen’s overdose death more than two years ago.

Aron Miranda, 24, was arraigned Wednesday on multiple charges, including delivery of a controlled substance causing death, a felony that is punishable by up to life in prison.

Prosecutors say Miranda sold pills containing fentanyl to 19-year-old Jack McCarthy of Birmingham shortly before 2 a.m. on Sept. 25, 2021 at a house in Detroit. McCarthy was found dead in his home around 2:30 a.m.

McCarthy connected with the dealer over Snapchat, according to reports. McCarthy’s family joined a lawsuit against Snapchat in 2022, claiming the platform’s disappearing message feature allowed dealers to remain anonymous.

Detroit police investigators eventually identified Miranda as a suspect after a yearslong investigation. He was arrested Tuesday and arraigned Wednesday morning.

Prosecutors say more specific evidence surrounding the case will be placed on record during his preliminary exam, scheduled for March 26.

Miranda has also been charged with delivery/manufacturing of a controlled substance less than 50 grams — a felony with a penalty of up to 20 years in prison — and felony firearm.

His next court date is scheduled for March 20.
