DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit man faces up to a decade behind bars after he was charged with breaking into an elderly woman's home and sexually assaulting her almost two weeks ago.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Friday charged Dazaun Leonard-Davaugh Johnson, 30, with one count each of Home Invasion First Degree and Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Penetration -- a felony which could see Dazaun serve a prison sentence of up to 10 years if convicted.

According to Detroit police, Dazaun allegedly broke into an elderly woman's home on Lodewyck near Chandler Park and Moross on the city’s east side around 10:15 a.m. on June 20.

Officials said when the woman confronted the 30-year-old, he physically assaulted her, knocked her to the floor and pulled her pants down.

It is further alleged Dazaun put his body on top of the victim's before fleeing the home.

Dazaun eluded police for over a week until he turned himself in on Thursday, ten days after the alleged attack.

“The defendant’s alleged actions in this case once again show a continuing disregard for our elders and our most vulnerable,” Worthy said in a press release. “It would be wonderful to get through a day where no child, senior or anyone else was used and abused.”

Dazaun is expected was arraigned in 36th District Court on Saturday, July 2, and received a $5,000 cash/surety bond. He will be back in court for a probable cause conference on July 11.
