WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - A Detroit man was arraigned on murder charges after police claim he shot and killed his mother during a fight inside a home last weekend.
Wayne County Prosecutors Kym Worthy announced that Malik Asante Smith, 27, of Detroit was charged and arraigned on two counts of first-degree Murder and Felony Firearm in connection to the fatal shooting of his mother, 54-yearo-old Lorraine Smith on Saturday, Oct. 14.
According to the Detroit Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 15000 block of Bringard Drive on reports of shooting in the area. When police arrived at the scene, they found Lorraine in a bedroom of the home with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
She was pronounced head at the scene.
Investigators claim Malik and his mother were involved in a physical fight before Malik produced a firearm and shot his mother multiple times.
The 27-year-old was remained to jail after his arraginement at the 36th District Court.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Oc. 31 at 8:30 a.m., and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Nov. 7 at 1:45 p.m.
No other details on the case were released.
