DETROIT (WWJ) -- A young Detroit man will spend the rest of his life in prison if he's convicted as charged in a deadly shooting inside a vehicle on the city's west side.

Martell Lanier Blunt, 21, of Detroit is facing one count of first-degree premeditated murder and one count of felony firearm in the death of 27-year-old Antonia Jenkins of Detroit.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Jenkins was in the driver's seat of his car at Joy Road and Lawton the night of Friday, September 1, when Blunt, who was in the front passenger seat, pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots.

At around 11:35 p.m., Detroit Police officers responded to the scene and found Jenkins dead, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities did not say how the two men were acquainted, or what the motive may have been for this murder.

Blunt was arraigned in 36th District Court on Monday and was remanded to jail without bond.

He will be back in court for a probable cause conference on September 14, followed by a preliminary examination set for September 21 before Judge Kenneth King.
