DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police have arrested a man accused of threatening Mayor Mary Sheffield, and making violent threats against city government buildings.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has charged 55-year-old Sterling Anthony Peters with one count of threat of terrorism following two alleged incidents on Monday morning.
Investigators said Peters tried entering the mayor's office at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, on Woodward Avenue, before telling officers he would shoot up the building.
It's alleged that Peters, after he was escorted out, then went to Detroit Public Safety Headquarters and made direct threats of physical harm against Mayor Sheffield.
He was schedule to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in 36th District Court
Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, in a statement: "We will absolutely not tolerate threats to elected officials including our judges. These threats are on the rise and are extremely concerning. We will prove the charge in this case in court beyond a reasonable doubt."
