DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 66-year-old Detroit man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his live-in girlfriend.
Gaylord Joseph Rogers faces one count each of first-degree murder and discharge in a building - causing death, as well as a felony firearm charge.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office (WCPO), Detroit police responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 7500 block of East Jefferson Ave. at around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 3.
Officers found the victim -- 54-year-old Maggie Stancil of Detroit -- unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics took the woman to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
It is believed that Rogers and Stancil were having a verbal argument that escalated to violence when the he allegedly shot her with a rifle, fatally wounding her.
Rogers was arraigned in 36th District Court and taken into custody on Saturday, November 5. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 14, and the Preliminary Examination will be held the following week on November 21, before Judge Kenneth King.
