DETROIT (WWJ) A Detroit man died in a motorcycle crash, involving a semi-truck, on a freeway Downriver; police said.

Michigan State Police (MSP) said the crash happened on northbound I-75  near Dearborn Street on Tuesday, September 9, around 10:30 p.m. They said Detroit Regional Communication Center (DRCC) began receiving calls of a crash involving a motorcycle with a man "lying motionless in the roadway."

Troopers arrived at the scene, and Detroit EMS told them the 41-year-old had died. Authorities identified him on scene by using a departmental fingerprint scanner, according to MSP.

Further investigation revealed a semi-truck had been involved, and multiple drivers struck the victim. The semi-truck driver had left the scene, MSP said.

During the investigation, DRCC received a call from a semi-truck driver who said "he hit something on I-75" but kept driving to Warren because he was "nervous."

Metro North Post troopers are in the process of interviewing a 50-year-old semi driver from Warren.

Authorities did not release any further details about the circumstances leading up to the crash. The victim's name was also not released.

An investigator report will be sent to the prosecutor to review potential charges, according to MSP.

“If you are involved in a traffic crash, stay on the scene,” First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said.  “Not only is it your legal responsibility, it is the right thing to do. Many drivers who are not at fault in a crash find themselves in trouble by driving away.”
