SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) — A Detroit man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison nearly a year after a shooting at a Southfield Chipotle restaurant.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday 33-year-old Aaron Brown has been sentenced to 1-to-10 years in prison for charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and an additional two years for a felony firearm charge.

The shooting stemmed from an April 5, 2024 argument over his serving of guacamole at the Chipotle on Evergreen near 11 Mile Road, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

At the time, Southfield police officials said Brown called a female Chipotle employee a derogatory name before going around the corner to begin packing his order — along with more guac — into a bag.

From there, he was confronted by an employee and the altercation escalated, leading to Brown pulling out a gun and firing a shot, hitting a 21-year-old employee in the leg.

"The victim in this case was shot in the leg for simply doing his job. That is unacceptable,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in a press release. “This was a serious crime, and Aaron Brown will serve serious prison time for his actions. This sentence provides the victim with justice.”

Brown fled the scene but was taken into custody a short time later. The Chipotle restaurant is directly across the street from the Southfield police station.

Brown had initially been charged with an additional count of discharging a weapon in or at a building causing injury, but that charge was dismissed when he pleaded guilty.
