(WWJ) A Detroit woman has been charge in connection with the shooting of her 13-year-old son by his 10-year-old cousin.

Brianna Williams, 30, was arraigned in 34th District Court over the weekend on one count of second degree child abuse.

It's alleged, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, that Williams had left her handgun unsecured in her home, in the 19400 block of Justine Street in Detroit, the afternoon of March 9.

The young shooter found the weapon, investigators said, picked it up and fired — striking his cousin on the right side of his head.

The wounded child was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was treated and survived.

"This case came to our office on the same day as another child shooting case, as a result of unsafe storage of a weapon," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

"Way too many innocent, very young children have easy access to these deadly weapons and this situation usually ends up with a seriously injured or fatally wounded child. I do not understand why the adults cannot safely store their firearms."

Bond for Williams was set at $2,000 personal, and a Probable Cause Conference was scheduled for May 6.
