DETROIT (WWJ) -- Days after the city announced efforts to cut down on teen violence this summer, a 14-year-old boy was shot in downtown Detroit.
According to Detrol Police, the shooting happened in front of the Gucci store near East Grand River Avenue and Library Street Sunday night.
The 14-year-old victim was shot in the chest, police said.
He's being treated at Children's Hospital and is expected to recover.
No one else was hurt.
Speaking to reporters, Police Chief Todd Bettison said that two young suspects, ager 16 and 17, were arrested in connection with the shooting, and a weapon was recovered.
Bettison did not talk about exactly what led up to the shooting, just before 10 p.m., but he noted that there were large groups of teens gathering downtown over the weekend.
Including at the time the shooting occurred.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reports there was another large gathering of teens, said to be as many as 500, was the scene of a large brawl downtown, a little after 10 p.m. Sunday, at Woodward Ave. and Gratiot. One teen was beaten, Langton said.
With both of these incidents in mind, Bettison reminded the public about the curfews in place for teens in the city.
"As the community know, curfew for 15-year-olds and under kicks in at 10 p.m. At 11 p.m., it's for 16 and 17-year-olds," Bettison said.
The investigation is ongoing.
