DETROIT (WWJ) — Just in time for America’s Thanksgiving Parade, Turkey Trot and the Lions’ annual Turkey Day game against the Bears, the Detroit People Mover is coming back.

After temporarily closing for 11 weeks to replace sections of the train’s original tracks, the People Mover will reopen next week. Officials announced Thursday the elevated train loop will celebrate its return with 36 hours of non-stop service, starting at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and running through 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28.

On Wednesday, riders can experience “an electrifying atmosphere” during the DPM Raid Train, featuring a special DJ, held at the Bricktown Station from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.

“Enjoy the lights of the city and the holiday festivities all night riding the People Mover around downtown,” a press release said.

On Thanksgiving Day, the People Mover will be “a hub of activity,” with the DPM Hot Cocoa and Handwarmers event at Grand Circus Park Station from 7-10 a.m. Turkey Trot and parade spectators and families can stop in for a free beverage while the parade travels down Woodward. The station is located at 1 Park St., between Woodward and Washington Blvd., next to the Autograph David Whitney Hotel.

After enjoying the parade, riders can hop on the People Mover and exit at the Broadway Station for a short walk to Ford Field to watch the Lions game.

People Mover service will operate until 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving to ensure fans can return to their starting points quickly and conveniently.

After the holiday, the DPM will introduce new permanent hours, as it opens earlier and closes later on weekdays and Sundays:

• Monday-Friday: 6:30 a.m. – Midnight
• Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – Midnight
• Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

"The Detroit People Mover is committed to transporting people, bringing them together and setting the stage for a great experience,” said Detroit Transportation Corporation General Manager Robert Cramer. "We’re thrilled to reopen just in time for the holidays and invite the community to rediscover this FREE and FUN way to explore downtown.”

Full details on schedules, stations and event information can be found on the People Mover website or its social media channels.
