DETROIT (WWJ) -- An officer with the Detroit Police Department is facing felony charges after it's alleged he threatened a child with a Taser.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Friday announced the case against Officer Caleb Williams, in connection with a reported incident at a home on E. Outer Drive in Detroit on April 17.

According to prosecutors, the 21-year-old Williams "threatened and frightened" his 10-year-old nephew by arcing his department-issued Taser while standing close to the boy.

Williams was arranged in 36th District Court Friday afternoon on two counts: Child Abuse Second Degree and Felonious Assault, Worthy said.

Bond was set at $10,000 on the condition that, if he is released on bond, Williams does not possess any weapons and has no contact with minors.

The defendant will be back in court for a probable cause conference on May 3, followed by a preliminary exam set for May 9.

Williams' current status with the the police department was not immediately known. DPD released the following statement: "Officer Williams's actions as depicted on the video constitute gross violations of the DPD's internal policies and procedures."
