DETROIT (WWJ) - A 17-year-old girl managed to escape a house fire on Detroit's west side on Tuesday morning after she jumped out of a window from the second floor.
Detroit Fire Chief James Harris told WWJ's Terri Lee Chandler that the blaze broke out at a home around 5:15 a.m. on July 11th in the 8800 block of St. Mary's Street, just off Joy Road on Detroit's west side.
"Upon arrival, we realized a 17-year-old female jumped out the second story to avoid any injuries from this house fire," Harris said.
The teen sustained minor injuries to her legs in the incident and was treated at the scene by firefighters.
It remains unclear if anyone else was in the home with the teen when the fire started, but crews managed to extinguish the blaze.
Harris said the fire is currently under investigation. No other details were provided.
