DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Detroit Tigers home opener appears to back on for April 8, 2022, after Major League Baseball owners and players reached an agreement to end the lockout.

The team put out a statement Wednesday night telling fans that the first two series with the White Sox and Red Sox have been removed from the schedule, adding, "We are disappointed in this news and know that you are too."

But after the lockout ended with a deal made on Thursday, the original April 8 Opening Day day against the Chicago White Sox was added back to the Tigers schedule.

Pre-game will begin at 12:50 p.m.

"I am genuinely thrilled to be able to say that Major League Baseball is back and we’re going to play 162 games, and I do want to start by apologizing to our fans,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said, as he apologized for nearly 100 days of impasse. “I know the last few months have been difficult, and there was a lot of uncertainty…that’s sort of the way the collective bargaining process works sometimes, but I do apologize for it.”

Spring Training games for the Tigers are now set to begin a week from today, Friday, March 18, in Lakeland, Florida vs. the Philadelphia Phillies.

MLB lifted its transaction freeze (which had been in effect since early December) at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday night.
