DETROIT (WWJ) -- The City of Detroit says it's aware of a trash problem on the city's west side, and does plan to do something about it.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reports garbage has been piling up at a vacant apartment building along Greenfield Rd., near McNichols, and people in the area are fed up with it.

Local resident, Corey Jackson, said this has been an ongoing problem.

"I mean, it looked real good, like the last time when they came out. I was here and I helped the guys clean up, and it looked good. They had boarded everything up," Jackson said. "And then they came out like a month later and it was messed up again."

Another resident, who gave the name "Star," said people in the community need to get on the same page.

"I think we should all come together and just get together and start doing what we're supposed to do. That's all," she said.

Detroit officials told WWJ that they plan to do something about the trash "today."
