DETROIT (WWJ) -- With her striking orange hue and playful personality, the Detroit Zoo's newest addition is sure to draw attention.
"We’re feeling extra lucky this St. Patrick’s Day!" the Detroit Zoo said Tuesday, as it announced the arrival of Darya, a 2-year-old female Amur tiger to the zoo's Devereaux Tiger Forest habitat.
Born Nov. 13, 2023, at the St. Louis Zoo, Darya came to Metro Detroit through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan. The program, the zoo says, "helps ensure healthy, genetically diverse animal populations in human care."
Darya now shares her Royal Oak home with fellow Amur tigers Nikolai and Ameliya.
Animal care staff describe Darya as "playful, energetic and curious" — often among the first to explore new spaces or splash in the water.
The best news: She's already out on view to visitors, as the zoo says, "Stop by and see if you can spot her on your next visit."
