Detroit residents will be able to mix and match with COVID-19 booster shots

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson? All Detroiters above the age of 18 will be able to choose any vaccine they want when receiving their COVID-19 booster shot

On Tuesday, the city of Detroit announced the availability of the booster shots for all eligible residents.

"We have ample supplies of vaccines, and that includes booster doses for everyone who is now eligible to receive them," said Mayor Mike Duggan in a health department statement.

According to the city, the Johnson & Johnson booster can be taken two months after initial vaccination, while the Pfizer and Moderna can be taken six months after the initial series of vaccinations. Residents with compromised immune systems due to health conditions such as asthmas or diabetes only have to wait 28 days to receive a booster.

"We welcome this approval because we want everyone to stay safe and protected this holiday season," said Denise Fair Razo, Detroit chief public health officer. "We know Detroiters are planning their celebrations with family and friends, and that is why we encourage everyone who is eligible for a booster to plan now to receive their booster dose so that everyone will stay healthy and safe."
