(WWJ) The Detroit Institute of Arts has announced it will close to visitors from Saturday, March 27 to Friday, April 2 due to “rising COVID-19 cases and the spread of variants across the state.”

The museum will contact visitors with existing registrations to “reschedule their visit,” it said in a statement.

Reservations are required for all visitors when the DIA is open, with masks required for all visitors over the age of three and staff members, and strict social distancing enforced.

The DIA closed for about three months last year during the early days of the pandemic. It curated a variety of online exhibits and programs for people of all ages, which still remain active.

The closure comes as Michigan confirms another 5,030 cases of COVID-19. 20 more residents who have tested positive for the virus have died.

Michigan Department Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reports 1,765 and about 13 children are hospitalized with a confirmed case of the virus. Zero of the children and about 140 of the adults are on ventilators.

About 380 people are in Intensive Care Units, according to MDHHS.

No hard data has been released on what percentage of the hospitalized patients have been fully or partially vaccinated.

More than 562,000 Michiganders are considered recovered from COVID-19 after surviving 30 days since testing positive for the virus.
