(WWJ) A Rockwood man is jailed on a $100,000 cash bond, charged with assaulting and injuring his girlfriend as they sat in their car at a freeway rest stop.
Brandon Mitchell Kolc, 29, was arraigned in 34th District Court in Romulus on Thursday in connection with the alleged attack on Tuesday.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, at around 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 28, Michigan State Police troopers were called to a rest area off of westbound I-94 in Van Buren Township about a reported assault.
Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
It is alleged, according to prosecutors, that when a "verbal altercation" between Kolc in the victim escalated, he punched and strangled her.
Police said Kolc fled when his girlfriend called 911, but an MSP investigation led to his arrest the same day at his mother's home.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has since charged Kolc with one count of Aggravated Domestic Violence.
Officials said Kolc had several additional warrants from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office at the time of his arrest in this case, although the details of those warrants were not released
If he is able to post bond and is released, he will be required to wear a GPS tether.
Kolc's next court appearance is a pretrial hearing scheduled for Dec. 13, before Judge Brian Oakley.
