TROY (WWJ) -- A South Rockwood man is facing possible jailtime after it's alleged he drove to the Troy Police Department last week while highly intoxicated.
At around 11:15 a.m. on August 28, officers responded to a call from staff at the Troy Police Lock-up on W. Big Beaver Road.
The staffers said when a man came in to be fingerprinted they smelled alcohol on his breath.
Looking at footage from a surveillance camera, officials were able to see the man as drove his vehicle up to the police department parking lot, where he parked and walked inside.
Officers confronted the 43-year-old driver, who allegedly admitted that he'd drank pint of liquor before driving, and police said liquor bottles were visible inside the man's car.
After the man failed a field sobriety test, he was arrested.
Police said the man then blew a .234% on breathalyzer test — well over twice the legal limit of .08% to drive under state law.
He then agreed to submit to a Chemical Breath Test with results of .236% and .228%, and was issued a citation for Operating with a Blood Alcohol Content of .17% or More.
Under Michigan's Super Drunk Laws, drivers with a BAC of .17% or more face stiffer penalties, including a possible jail term of up to 180 days if convicted.
Police did not say why the man was being fingerprinted. His name was not released.
